YOUTH Folkstyle season 2024

Practice and competition calendar

Wrestling room etiquette:

  • No street shoes on the mat.
  • No food or drink in the wrestling room. Water bottles are the exception.
  • Stay off of the exercise bikes and other workout equipment (mat blocks, balls, ropes, weighted dummies, etc.). We use that equipment to train our high school athletes. Do not remove items from the wrestling room. This applies to all wrestlers and their siblings/guests.
  • Non-registered children are not allowed on the mat during classes. Wrestlers are to only attend the class for which they are registered unless permitted otherwise. We are observing group caps.
  • Wrestlers’ fingernails need to be trimmed.
  • Wrestlers need to shower as soon as possible after practice and tournaments.

We invite every parent/guardian interested in learning with your wrestler to join us on the mat. Come dressed for practice! Parent/guardian support and involvement is integral in helping our young athletes grow and learn. If you are interested in becoming USA certified, talk to Coach Jeff or Coach John for more information.

Tournaments:

Tournament readiness and participation is a personal decision for the wrestler and family. Regularly attending practice and competing at tournaments will lead to confidence, growth and improvement for the wrestler and family. There are multiple USA Utah tournaments throughout the state each week. Those can be found on the USA Utah Wrestling website; link listed below. Wrestlers are invited to individually attend any and all tournaments they wish. However, Charger coaches will only be at the listed tournaments on the CWC Tournament Schedule. Please be advised, while we have coach representation at the listed tournaments, parents/guardians/family may need to step in their wrestler’s corner when a coach is occupied at another match. We will do our best to help every wrestler, but there will be instances when wrestlers compete at the same time.

Wrestlers will need to personally register for each tournament they plan to attend. This is completed through Track Wrestling. You will need to create a Track Wrestling account or “continue as guest” and have your USA Wrestling ID number available. This ID number is the USA membership you purchased and affiliated with Charger Wrestling Club. Accurate club affiliation alerts the coaches who are wrestling at the tournament and on which mat.

The registration links for listed tournaments will be included in email communications once the links are open and active. Wrestlers’ weights will be entered by Charger staff. Official weigh-ins will take place at practice on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the tournament. If a wrestler chooses to compete at a tournament not listed in the CWC tournament schedule, be sure to notify a coach to collect and enter an official weight. There are registration deadlines for each tournament. We advise that your wrestler registers as soon as registration for the desired tournament is open.

Our very own Charger Classic is on November 23. The flyer for the tournament is attached to this email. We strongly encourage all Charger wrestlers to compete at the Charger Classic Tournament. The registration link is not yet active. We will advertise when registration opens.

Wrestling tournaments can feel overwhelming and chaotic, especially for first time wrestlers. If you find yourself uncertain about where to go or what to expect, find a Charger coach and ask for help. Once you’ve attended a couple tournaments, you’ll see that they are often run in similar fashion, and you’ll feel more comfortable navigating them. Most tournaments are able to run each age group session within 2-3 hours. Always arrive 45-60 minutes prior to tournament staggered start time to warm up and allow ample time to get situated.

Volunteering/Donations:

There are several ways to help our program. The first volunteer/donation opportunity is for the Charger Classic Tournament November 22-23. Please watch for sign-up information to come. There will be more volunteer opportunities in the future if this first tournament does not work for your schedule.
